Recently, I just passed the AI-900: Azure AI Fundamentals exam. Since it was paid for by my company, I thought, why not? It’s my first Azure certification, and here’s how I prepared for the exam.
Exam Domains
AI-900 covers the following domains:
- Describe Artificial Intelligence workloads and considerations (15–20%)
- Describe fundamental principles of machine learning on Azure (20–25%)
- Describe features of computer vision workloads on Azure (15–20%)
- Describe features of Natural Language Processing (NLP) workloads on Azure (15–20%)
- Describe features of generative AI workloads on Azure (15–20%)
Preparation Steps
1. Start with Microsoft’s Free Learning Paths
Microsoft offers free, self-paced learning modules tailored for the AI-900 exam.
- Access the Learning Paths: Microsoft Learn — AI Fundamentals
The modules include:
- Explore the basics of AI
- Introduction to Machine Learning
- Build machine learning models
- Introduction to Computer Vision
- Explore Natural Language Processing
- Introduction to Conversational AI
Tip: Even if you’re familiar with the content, complete the Knowledge Checks at the end of each module to assess your understanding.
2. Practice with Sample Questions
Free Resources
- Free Sample Questions: Utilize any free practice questions available online to get a feel for the exam format.
- Official Study Guide: Microsoft’s official study guide outlines all the topics and provides insights into what areas to focus on.
Paid Resources
- AI-900: Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals (Pearson Practice Test): This practice test offers pretty similar testset as real one.

Exam Tips
- Exam Duration: 45 minutes
- # of Questions: 40–60 questions
- Passing Score: over 700 out of 1000.
- Question Formats: Multiple-choice, True/False, Drag-and-drop, Case studies
- No Penalty for Guessing: There’s no negative marking, so make sure to attempt all questions.
